Meridian and Acupuncture (1) Overview (1-2)

(Dr. Chen Yi Kui)

At the end of the Shang Dynasty, when you were operating, you found that when you were in pain, when you stimulated the pain, it was like an electric shock. This kind of operation, a kind of conduction effect is called pulse, so at the time of the late Shang Dynasty and the beginning of Zhou Dynasty, there were only eight channels and the eight channels of the odd meridians were until the Zhou Dynasty. When did they have acupuncture points? It was during the Warring States period. The acupuncture points were only available during the Warring States period. The eight pulses, du mei, Ren mei,yin Wei mei, yang Wei mai, yang qiao mei, and yin qiao mai all use hexagrams, and then there are only eight pulses in the chong mai. The eight meridians are very easy to use. The eight meridians of the Qi meridian were from the Shang Dynasty to the Zhou Dynasty. Because of the success of the Zhou Dynasty revolution, he changed this divination. He didn’t use cow bones or anything, but the Shang Dynasty used it at the time. Animals, King Zhou Wu and Gong Zhou of the Zhou Dynasty used plants at the time, and used plants for divination, and used patients.

Well, I did a lot of research. At that time, Bu was used one by one. Cyperaceae at that time was called rush grass. Why in the Shang Dynasty, the word "Bu" represented a big bone. When a hole goes down, there is a "boom", why did the Zhou Dynasty use the grass? Only when grass photosynthesis has negative ions, he thinks it is the right way to induce them. Therefore, Taoism is very vivid in this way, and the grass is also alive and spiritual.

Although the history of King Zhou Wen is a legend, it is clearly written in the historical records. King Zhou Wen was arrested by the monarch of the Shang Dynasty and imprisoned. I think this story is also in the historical records. He collected the historical records that had been progressing since the Shang Dynasty, including the fact that he felt that he needed so many things at the time, to record how many trigrams overlapped to produce hexagrams, so he put Fuxi’s trigrams, these eight trigrams, put one trigram on top and one trigram below, and they would come out if they overlapped. Then it becomes 64 hexagrams. When divination is used in the sixty-four hexagrams, it is classified according to it. How to classify it? For my meridian, I should pierce there, pierce that segment, and use the method of divination. When you divination the hexagram, it should be the segment of the meridian. This is the acupuncture point.

I have always emphasized that the name of the acupuncture points did not appear until the Warring States period. The eight channels of the Qi meridian have eight channels. If it is induced to be the Du Channel after divination, which is the hexagram, you will know that the Du Channel is so long. Divided into six lines, it should be in that section, whether it is burned down in that section, or pierced down, it is also effective!

So later in the Warring States period, Wu Qi only had acupuncture points. Wu Qi was a military strategist and a scholar of Yin-Yang family. So what does Wu Qi have to do with acupuncture points? Will a person fight when he is sick? If he is sick, he can’t fight. So the first thing Wu Qi learned is to use acupuncture points to protect this person from getting sick and to protect the army under him from getting sick. You can only fight if you are healthy. My army must have a good memory and be obedient, otherwise they will forget how to fight, which is very important.

The Cultural Revolution started in 1966 and has been in the process of the Cultural Revolution for 40 years. Mao Zedong led those young people. How could the Cultural Revolution wipe out all those old men and literati. First, the young people were healthy and the young people had good memories. They remembered everything Mao Zedong said, so Mao Zedong always told them to remember my words when they were fighting. What are his words? Little Red Book of Mao's Quotations. Memorized and familiar with Mao's quotations, and the old man can't memorize it. Then you just don't love Mao Zedong, I will defeat you.

Wu Qi studied the patient and was unable to work, so he came to serve as a soldier. He was in good health and strong enough to fight. So Wu Qi was great. Everyone didn't dare to let him lead. Why? Leading soldiers are better than the emperor, what to do? Just develop these things to treat people who are sick. After Wu Qi's path was completed, it was recorded, and a very famous Bianque appeared. Therefore, in the history of acupuncture and moxibustion in China, the first person healed was the crown prince who healed the king. He recorded it, provided it, and then recorded it. History will record him. When I was reading the history of acupuncture, I had some records from mainland China, including the entire record. I was talking about the origin of acupuncture and moxibustion in mainland China from 10,000 years ago. It is recorded in history. Yes, it started with Bian Que, so when the doctor is Bian Que alive, it means he is good, he is like Hua Tuo alive.

So is acupuncture medicine or surgery? It is treated internally by surgery. Acupuncture is a surgical treatment of internal medicine. When it comes to internal medicine, internal medicine is very early. In the early days, you must have the stone, the kind of stone mortar and then beat the food. This kind of plant eats it, you are easier to get better. So I changed to using a copper pot. If the stone mortar was gone, I changed to boiled. If it was boiled, use a copper pot. It was cooked in a copper pot. However, there was no book on the prescription for cooking Chinese medicine in the Zhou Dynasty. There was only one book in Han Dynasty. It just appeared, called Shennong's Herbal Classics.

What kind of herb is used, but there is no prescription. There are thirty or sixty kinds of it, but there is no prescription. Herbalism at that time. In this way, the Bian Que era has become brilliant and sensational. Everyone wants to learn this thing. It is not easy to learn this thing. It is not easy to get a needle as thick as it is to poke it down. What should I do if I can't poke tetanus? You have to think about it, so people are talking about why Bian Que would heal the prince. I often reply to them. Bian Que has poked many people before and died of tetanus. He is very experienced to know how to poke and not have tetanus, the Chinese use human bodies as soon as they experiment. Death is because you didn't accumulate virtue in your previous life, so was stabbed to death in this life. Chinese people probably use this model.

After the Wuqi acupuncture path is set, the direction of study is different. In the past, when you had to learn one thing, you had to pay a great price. The first one was to cut the bamboo, and the bamboo had to be threaded. Why? It needs to be engraved on the book. This is an old book. This book is called “Cher”. Two bamboos are threaded together, so there are very few people studying it.

There are many factions like this. From the Zhou Dynasty to the Han Dynasty, you have to understand this faction in the Han Dynasty. Everyone can't stand a needle like this, and it will become that all the nobles don’t have a needle. The needle is like the cloth bag needle now, poking in from your stomach like this, wouldn’t you be afraid? Scared! Can't stand it! Therefore, noble leaders don’t pay much attention to this kind of thing. They burned until the meat was cooked. If the moxibustion was not good, the piece would be cooked. If you didn’t pierce it right, you would die from tetanus. Just use straw to sweep a roll and find a place to bury it. That's how the former minions were. Nobles are humans, and ordinary minions are not humans. God came out like this. Isn’t it like this in Egypt? The nobles are humans, and the slaves are not humans. Moses could not stand that and brought that group of slaves out of Egypt. This is written in the Bible, which means that you are a noble and don’t treat the slaves as humans. So these people created one God, came out to fight against the nobles, that's it.

So we Chinese have also come down like this. In the end, it’s good to drink herbal medicines. What should I do if herbal medicines are hard to drink? You need to find some sweet ones, you can drink it a little bit better. Then licorice comes out, so there are medicines that are difficult to drink that all have ginger, licorice, and jujube. Ginger, licorice, and jujube are in medicines that are really difficult to drink. Why? If you add it down, you can swallow it, and you won’t spit it out. Otherwise, the bitter-tasting medicine will spit it out if it’s too bitter. If you add these three, you won’t spit it out, and this medicine will have the effect.

Because of the relationship of the nobles in the Han dynasty, the popular way of dealing with diseases among the nobles at that time, Mr. Zhang Zhongjing wrote a book called Treatise on Febrile Diseases, which has been amazed by others. Then there was no printing in the Han Dynasty. Why did this treatise on Febrile Disease spread to the present? Because it is a noble thing, people will use it and engrave it. In the Han Dynasty, there was already silk. The silk left over from the Qin Dynasty was written with paper and rice paper, and folded into a large pile. Will the silk and rice paper be eaten by cockroaches? How can the Treatise on Febrile Diseases survive? What's the problem? Because it is the relationship of the nobles, the nobles have a family, and your family has a treatise on Febrile Diseases. My mansion will also find a way to copy a treatise on Febrile Diseases. Because we want to protect the health of the nobles, just copy it down. Why is it so developed at present? That needs to worship Zhu Di of the Ming Dynasty. He believed that health was very important. The things left by the nobles in the past should be placed in the Yongle Grand Collection. Zhu Di of the Ming Dynasty put the Treatise on Febrile Diseases in the Yongle DaDian, and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty got a Siku Quanshu. Taking the Yongle DaDian as  a blueprint, put it in the Siku Quanshu. It was also released during Kangxi. Kangxi did not release the Treatise on Febrile Diseases. He used the Synopsis for Release of the Golden Chamber. He did not include the Treatise on Febrile Diseases, so why didn’t it include the Treatise on Febrile Diseases? It was because even though Kangxi took possession of the Forbidden City, he succeeded to the throne when he was young, and he still fights every day, and he continued fighting until he was old. Although his ministers have organized a lot, there is a very famous book called “the collection of ancient and modern books”. His minister of arts and sciences, fortune-telling things, especially Bazihui, was so famous. In the past, Bazi was more famous than Doushu, because Bazi was included in the collection of ancient and modern books by Kangxi, and Treatise on Febrile Diseases was included in Yongle Dadian by Zhu Di, and later in the Siku Quanshu. So this is how it can be carried forward.

Therefore, the Qing Dynasty formed a very famous medical school YiZhongJinjian, which is indelible. In terms of Chinese medicine, our true culture reached the most refined and high-level era during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
